1 General provisions These rules define the terms of participation in the FOLA PHOTOBOOK AWARD #2

1. contest (hereinbelow: the Contest).
2. The Contest is organized by FOLA based in Buenos Aires, Argentina
3. Participation in the Contest has no FEE
4. Books must be produced or published between August 2017, and November 2018.
5. the books must be send it by courier, DHL or FEDEX or in person ONLY,
6. regular International Post submission wont be accepted due to customs delays in Argentina
7. The aim of the Contest is to select the Best Photography Book of the Year, all participant books must be published between August 2017 and November 2018

2 Terms of participation in the Contest

1. The Contest is open to everybody. All the photographers are welcome to send their books (one or more) published between August 2017 and November 2018
2. There are no restrictions concerning the subject, technique or quantity of works.
3. One book authored by a Participant of the Contest can be registered as one submission.
4. Books authored by duets or collectives can also be submitted
5. Each participant can submit maximum four books.
6. Works included in the book should be authored by the submitting person or persons in the case of duets and collectives.
7. Participation in the Contest is understood as accepting its rules.
8. Submitting the Project:
   • Books should be submitted before November 15, 2018 to arrive to FOLA no later than November 26, 2018
   • Books should be submitted on picter.com/fola
   • The participant shall follow the process of registration according to the form on the website. Information concerning the participant and their book included in the form should be as precise as possible.
   • Submissions can be edited on www.picter.com after the registration has ended, but no later than by 15.11.2018

3 Evaluation of projects and prizes

1. The deadline for submissions is 15.11.2018, and the books must arrive physically to FOLA no later than November 26, 2018
2. Evaluation of projects shall be conducted by the Jury.
3. Decisions of the Jury are final and non-appealable.
4. The Jury will not be obliged to justify their decisions or provide any information on the course of deliberations. A. The Winner of the Fola Award to the best photography book of the year, who will receive a monetary award of USD2000 B. Short list of 30 books to be exhibit during FOLA 10x10 fair, from December 6 to December 9, 2018 (expecting 4000/5000 visitors during the fair days)

4 Final provisions

1. Submissions that do not comply with the rules shall not be taken into consideration.
2. Announcements and information concerning the Contest will be published on www.fola.com.ar

3. All correspondence and questions concerning the Contest should be sent via e-mail to: fola.award@photogramas.com

4. Contest schedule:

   1. announcement of the Contest: September 16, 2018
   2. deadline for submissions: November 15, 2018
   3. all books must arrive to FOLA on or before November 26, 2018
   4. informing the Participants about the shortlist December 6, 2018
   5. granting award by December 9, 2018

5. Persons who do not meet any of the requirements stated in these Rules or provide false information shall be automatically eliminated from the Contest. Entering the Contest by a participant (submitting the Book) is equivalent with accepting the content of these Rules.

6. All books must physically arrive at FOLA in Buenos Aires, Argentina on or before November 26, 2018. All books will remain the property of FOLA library and cannot be returned.

7. Juror this year. Russet Lederman, Leandro Villaro and Ricardo Baez

Juror information:

• Russet Lederman is a writer, editor and photobook collector who lives in New York City. She teaches art writing at the School of Visual Arts in New York and writes on photobooks for print and online journals, including FOAM, The Eyes, IMA, Aperture and the International Center of Photography’s library blog. She is a co-founder of the 10×10 Photobooks project, co-edits The Gould Collection, lectures internationally on photobooks, and has received awards and grants from Prix Ars Electronica and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

• Leandro Villaro is a photographer and editor, and the Director of Programs at Penumbra Foundation. He has collaborated with numerous photographic institutions, including Aperture Foundation, Errata Editions and the International Center of Photography, among others. Under the imprint antennae collection he has published limited editions of the work of several Argentinian artists. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the W. Eugene Smith Memorial Fund. He lives and works in New York.

• Ricardo Báez is a graphic designer who focuses on book design. After dropping out Design School, Báez worked –from 2004 to 2012–, along with Venezuelan renowned designers such as Eduardo López, Carlos E. Rodríguez and finally w/ Álvaro Sotillo (AGI member and 2005 Gutenberg Prize) at the Visión Alternativa Design Studio and the Laboratorio de Tipografía de Caracas Research Center. Báez’s work has been shown in Japan, England, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Netherlands, France, USA, Scotland, Belgium, Argentina and Venezuela. More recently, he has been involved with photobooks as designer, editor and collector.
